WOMEN IN THE NEWS:
On July 15, 2018 Captain Mary Cameron-Kelly was honoured by the Canadian 99s with a new stamp celebrating her achievement as the first female Captain of the Aurora aircraft. The 99s are an international group of women aviators, and the Canadian branch is now in their 11th year of recognizing female pilots with commemorative stamps.
Captain Cameron-Kelly joined the military on July 15, 1981. After a few tries, she realized her childhood dream of being a military pilot. Since then, she has logged over 7000 hours in the Aurora aircraft. Her advice to anyone is, "Basically, don't give up. If you really want to do something, keep trying it." To read one of the many articles about her, go to: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/cape-breton-pilot-pioneer-for-women-in-aviation-1.4747850

YOUR STORIES AND REMINISCENCES:
Betty writes after reading the story in the July newsletter: Another Betty from 1951, coming back to St. Hubert from Comox, got to Vancouver, dumped in Edmonton along with two airmen, hitch hiked to Winnipeg, flew in a boxcar to Trenton, train to Montreal. Found out later, could have applied for a train ticket and been paid back later.
Here is a challenge: What was the best and the worst part of boot camp?
If you would like to share an experience with us, contact us here to share your stories even if it's just a paragraph. We look forward to hearing from you!
REQUESTS AND COMMENTS:
Eugenie writes: Thank you for the nice informative newsletters. I am now 95 and wish I could attend the reunions, but my traveling days are over. The last reunion I attended in Whitehorse was quite a memorable one for me being the only wartime veteran and serving with BOMBER Command in England during the war. Thank you again for the fuss you made over me, one of my most appreciated experiences. Keep up the good work. Best regards, Eugenie Turner
