JUNE 2024

“Fun doesn't care what your age is!”

We would like to thank the following organizations who supported the RCAF Airwomen's 16th Reunion:

  • The RCAF Association Trust Fund Board of Trustees
  • Mayor Philip Brown of Charlottetown and Mayor Steve Ogden of Stratford for their warm welcome and kind words.
  • Memorabilia from Charlottetown, Stratford, Alberton, St. Anthony's Legion Branch #27, Tignish Initiatives Corporation, PEI Military Family Resource Centre, Post-Traumatic Growth Association
Your support and hospitality added greatly to the success of our reunion.

Reunion 16 was highly successful. It all started on Tuesday morning, May 28th. We were setting up our registration room for 09:00 morning and the ladies started showing up on time ... that is "military on time". They were early, and not just a couple of people either.

Everyone was excited to be there, looking for old friends they hadn't seen in many years. On Tuesday night the meet and greet started early at 16:00. The ladies met in the Atrium for drinks and wandered over to the Ocean room next door to participate in the fun filled picture booth. Ladies were doning silly hats and holding up signs and collecting their picture from the gentleman running the camera.

At 18:00 everyone was ushered in to the Dunes/Beach rooms which formed the Dinning area (where we spent most of time) and found their seats. The festivities were started with our Master of Ceremonies, Tracey Everette, welcoming the members. Shannon Hale decribed the missing man table for fallen comrades. Debbie Reid said a prayer for the commencement of R16 at dinner.

We were a little unconventional this time round and decided to pass the mic around the room and ladies told stories to commented on things. It was very entertaining. We also handed out door prizes. Thanks to the PEI committee we had an abundance of items to hand out.

On Wednesday morning at 09:15 May 29th, we met in the lobby for a Prince Edward Island Bus Tour, which included a trip to Green Gables in Cavendish and lunch at the Preserve Company. We had a tour guide Kevin and the bus driver Lavern. They were a great team. Kevin was highly entertaining regaling us with funny stories, history, agricultural information, trivia about the island, people, and buildings of PEI.

Wednesday evening from 17:00 to 18:00 the ladies gathered in the Atrium and Ocean room for drinks. We were piped in to dinner. Carol Young gave the blessing for the evening meal. After the meal we were serinaded by four very talented ladies who belong to a much larger group of an all women A-Capella troup. The four ladies called Harmonix performed songs from the 50's, 60's and 70's barber quartet style.

The next morning at 09:15 May 30th, we had an incredible service lead by Reverand Paula Hamilton. The room was packed, and the participants were not disappointed.

At 10:00 we had the final meal in which we sang Happy Birthday to one of our May birthday ladies June Patterson, whose birthday happens to be on the 30th. The reverand gave the blessing for the last meal. The dining room was packed with ladies and their, husbands, guest, and other family members.

From the Executive

We have had a lot of amazing feedback from the people attending the reunion. We are glad that everyone enjoyed themselves.

We would like to thank the people that donated their time to making the Reunion the success it was - the PEI Committee ladies Debbie, Bernie and Margie, the photographer Darlene Bekker, the Piper Angela, and the Reverend Paula Hamilton.

A big thanks goes out to Luke and Antenique and the rest of the staff at the Holman Grand Hotel, who made our stay an exceptional experience. This reunion was a big deal to our female veterans and they did not disappoint.

Thanks to Mayumi at the Prince Edward Island Tours for her amazing help in organizing not only the bus trip but also the discounted entrance ticket to Green Gables and the meal at the Preserve Company, in which we arrived about 10 to 15 minutes before the cruise ship buses, and we were all able to get window seats. We also got their most experienced tour guide.

If it has been more than five years their names go directly in the Last Post list on the website, but do not appear in the newsletter.
