MARCH 2022

THOUGHT OF THE DAY:

"Tough times never last, but tough women do."

MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:

Ladies,

The Reunion will be Sept 13-15 2022.  We currently have 84 Ladies signed up. The attendee list is updated as registrations come in. If you would like to attend but are unsure you can make it, please register now, without the $50 to allow us to consider the higher attendance for booking entertainment.

Tuesday and Wednesday will both be sit down dinners, and the Brunch on the last day will be a buffet after the Church service. The second will be the more formal night. The Winnipeg committee is working hard on finding entertainment for both nights. There will be an area set up for “table” (group) photo’s, please make sure that your table gets their photo taken one of the two evenings.

We are continuing to follow all covid updates and things seem to be moving in a positive direction. We will be following any protocols set in place at the time to make the reunion as safe as possible.

A request to change to the Legion magazine article been sent in.  If the next publication does not have the correct date and contact info, please let us know. Thank you

CFS DANA podcast, our very own Pat Brennen spoke about the up coming reunion.  Link to pod cast here

WINNIPEG TRIVIA:

There are quite a few golf courses in Winnipeg, one in particular is the 17 Wing golf course:

"CFB Winnipeg Golf Club was originally built by volunteers at the Wing and opened in 1988.

The Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg Golf Club is a unique 9 hole, 2,100 yard, par 32 golf course that is located on the inter site road of 17 Wing. The course accommodates all levels of golfers from the beginner to the club champion."

STAMP COLLECTING FOR CHARITY:

Flo Reid writes:  Just a reminder to keep collecting and sending your postage stamps.  I have been getting lots of stamps in the mail and have had some wonderful conversations with some of our ex-airwomen from coast to coast. Also, it gives me something to do in these COVID times.

If you have any questions, please phone Flo at 403-990-1556 or e-mail flobobreid@shaw.ca

Oxfam Canada Stamp Program Update:

Flo Reid also writes:

I have received the following from Oxfam Canada and thought you would like to know how your donations of stamps help this worthwhile cause.

BATTLING COVID 19
“Thank you for your donations to the Oxfam Stamp Program.  Your donations and your support for helping to 'stamp out' poverty and hunger are deeply appreciated by everyone at Oxfam Canada.
With the proceeds from the stamps sold in 2021 we raised over $29,000. We also passed the half million mark in total donations since the program began almost 40 years ago. With our 2021 funds we continued to sponsor the project in Asia dealing with violence against women and girls.
And now in 2022 we have started supporting a new project dealing with the impact of COVID-19.  Areas of focus in Oxfam’s response include:  Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene; Advocacy with Governments; and Sharing Reliable Information.”

I think this is a very worthwhile project due to our worldwide Pandemic and we should continue to donate our stamps to Oxfam.
