MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:

Ladies,

We have sad news: Shirley Grace Duff, a founding member of this organization, has died. Unless you were around in the beginning or have visited our website, you may not have heard the story of two women who had a chance meeting in a store and decided to meet for lunch.

The story goes:

One day in Vancouver in 1988 Diane White (1940-2017) and Shirley Duff (1928-2023) met at a department store "by chance" and made a luncheon date for later, to talk over old times. During that luncheon they thought it would be a great idea to hold a reunion of all airwomen from the 1951 to 1966 era. So they set about planning a reunion and held a very successful one in Vancouver in June 1990. They attracted women from all across Canada, the US and Mariana Islands. A second reunion was held in Ottawa in June 1993. After that it became a periodic occurrence and here we are today.

Shirley Duff was on course 5746 and became a supply technician. She served from 1957 to 1978. She attended reunions 1 through 12. Shirley became ill and was unable to attend anymore reunions. Shirley was 95 when she passed away in Vancouver, BC.

POSTAGE STAMP COLLECTING FOR OXFAM:

Bill Woodley, Stamp Program Volunteer Co-ordinator for Oxfam contacted me after I notified him that we will no longer be collecting postage stamps for Oxfam.

He was sorry to learn of the decline in our membership, as well as the end of our stamp collecting. He thanks us for all past donations and best wishes for the future.

Flo Reid
